This has been a rough year. From the pandemic and protests, to extreme storms and wildfires fueled by climate change and a contentious presidential election, 2020 has been a difficult time for many people. For Underscore, this year has determined the direction of our reporting. This year has underscored the need for local and original reporting.
Journalism is the lifeblood for an informed public. As a new nonprofit public service journalism group, Underscore is starting fresh—building racial justice into how we report, producing news about people and issues that have been historically marginalized. Amid so much uncertainty about the future, the need for news and information about where we live is stronger than ever before.
This year, Underscore has an opportunity to double your donation. We have once again been selected to participate in NewsMatch, a national matching-gift campaign that drives donations to nonprofit newsrooms around the U.S. Since 2016, NewsMatch has raised more than $100 million for nonprofit journalism. That’s a lot of impact.
In an average year, this funding opportunity would be crucial to fulfilling our mission. But in 2020, it’s absolutely critical. Public service journalism is essential to an engaged citizenry. Please help Underscore grow with a gift in whatever amount you can afford.
We can earn up to $11,500 in matching dollars, which means Underscore can raise $23,000 in total. This funding will help ensure we continue to produce high-quality, independent journalism. We can't do this without you!
Public service journalism has never mattered more. Give today and NewsMatch will double your donation.
